Play therapy has an established and growing evidence base and has been proved effective in supporting neurodivergent children. Play therapy has been shown to help autistic and neurodivergent children understand social navigation, improve emotional expression and regulation ability, improve reactive and symbolic play communication, and provide improvement in the parent/child relationship.
Play therapy is an effective treatment intervention for children who are victims of child abuse, neglect and maltreatment. In addition play therapy is a suitable therapeutic intervention for asylum-seeker and refugee children and for children from culturally linguistic and diverse backgrounds. In addition we see a growing number of children struggle with communication and emotional regulation. They might have difficulty coping with stress and thus exhibit anxiety, anger, or challenging behaviours. Play therapy can be an effective treatment for children experiencing difficulty in identifying, communicating, and regulating their emotions.
Play therapy can support children as they learn to manage their emotions. The therapeutic relationship it provides supports the development of positive, healthy attachments.
Facing grief, loss or trauma can be challenging for children. Play therapy can help your child learn new skills, overcome their grief and loss and thrive again!

Talia is an Early Childhood Educator, a Registered Clinical Play Therapist and the founder of Neuroplay Australia. She has an extensive history working in early intervention and is passionate about making a change in the lives of children and their families. Talia's therapeutic approach is informed by attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, the therapeutic powers of play, child development and other relational neurosciences to better understand and work with children's emotional, psychological and behavioural difficulties.
There are a lot of young children out there with all kinds of challenges and their parents are struggling to find ways to help them and connect with them. Children have fewer emotional, social and cognitive interactions with fewer people. The impact of 'modern life' on the developing child has yet to be fully understood. The demands of school, friendships, social media, and life in general can all impact mental health. Many children and teens feel misunderstood; trust could be broken, and the family dynamic could be shaken up. The capacity to care, to share, to listen, value and be empathic- to be compassionate- develops from being cared for, shared with, listened to, valued and nurtured. At Neuroplay Australia our goal is to improve your child's emotional well-being by increasing their coping skills in all areas of life while also providing support to parents and carers.
